Psalm 68

Psalm 68

Jesus said, "You will see the Son of man sitting to the right of God. And He will come on the clouds in the sky". (Matthew 26:64)

Our Journey is a march to our eternal Home with God

Yes, we live under constant danger of death because we serve Jesus, so that the life of Jesus will be evident in our dying bodies. 2 Cor 4:11

The Philistines had taken the ark of God.   The ark built by Moses and in it was stored the precious things of   God. The Ten Commandments, some manna etc. The Philistines only had trouble while they had it and they gave it back to David, the Kings of the Israelites.

David decides to take it to Jerusalem. There was no temple there yet but they had a tent when the people met God.

This is believed to be sung on the journey to Jerusalem with the Ark , during this time of Passover.

As they walked, journey towards Jerusalem, they look back to the beginning of their journey our of Egypt . Then they look forward to the Eternal home when Jesus would reign as King.

vv 1-6   They sing about who their God is and what He does for His people

vv 7-18 They sing about God leading His people out of Egypt and into the Promised land

vv 19-31 Reveals the journey and what they experience

vv 32-25   Is a Doxology –Praise God for what You have done for us.

vv 1-6   They sing about who their God is and what He does for His people

And whenever the Ark set out, Moses would shout, "Arise, O LORD, and let your enemies be scattered! Let them flee before you! Numbers 10:35

So they start the journey to Jerusalem.

Asking God to prepare the way for them.

·       Blow them away like smoke

·       Melt them like wax in a fire

·       Cause the wicked to perish in Your Presence

BUT:

·       Let the godly rejoice

·       Let them be glad in God’s presence

·       Let them be filed with joy

David celebrate God’s Majest- Praise Him that rides upon the heavens, His name  JAH and rejoice before Him.  HalleluJAH- Praise the Lord.

The god baal was called the cloud rider but David and the Israelites are saying our God, is the real Cloud Rider Jah is the One who rides upon the heavens.  As they look up in the clouds they saw clouds as the foaming chariots of God when He rides forth upon His way.  Visual images of the actions of God.

So sing loud it is our God, JAH who rides in the clouds.

He is the Father to the fatherless,

                 Defender of the widows

He places the lonely in families  homes/church

He sets the prisoners free

vv 7-18  There are three  SELAH’s, one at the first part of each section. They would sing and then stop, think, make music and pray and then go on to the next section.

A bit of history-

We Remember when you led Your people out of Egypt

A look into the Future

A look at the resurrection and the ascension of Christ.

                  Eph 4:8-10

vv-19-31  Israel’s hope

vv  19-20 A time of rejoicing, Praise the Lord Who---

Carries us

Saves us

vv  21 -23 Our enemies defeated.

vv 24-33  Israel is restored and we will Sing!!!!!

v 34  Now Go and TELL

v35- God is awesome in His Sanctuary

He Gives Strength and Power to His people!!!!

We sing praises to His Holy Name

Praise God, He is the Cloud rider.
