Psalm 57

Psalm 57

“As sure as God puts his children in the furnace, He will be in the furnace with them.” Spurgeon

When the world is crushing in around you, there is prepared for you a hiding place.  –His name is Jesus, He is Lord.

To be sung to the tune of ‘Do Not Destroy’

v1  Have Mercy,  I will Hide, a choice! Hear me, a request!  Help me, a plea! David asks and God answers, peace is at home in David’s heart.

What does it mean to truly hide?

“As a man thinketh in his heart so is he” Prov 23:7  What are you thinking about when you are hiding.   Fear-calls up anxiety. Emotion comes directly from what we think. If you are afraid, your body responds and you are anxious. If you think about how others have wronged you, you will feel anger.  If you dwell on what you have lost, you will be sad.

When we cannot see the sunshine of God's face, it is blessed to cower down beneath the shadow of his wings.” “When we are under the divine shadow, the passing over of trouble cannot harm us; the hawk flies across the sky, but this is no evil to the chicks when they are safely nestling beneath the hen.” Spurgeon

"With the heart man believeth unto righteousness." Romans 10:10 In  the shadow of your wing will I make my refuge. David found a hiding place in the cave, his trust was put in the cleft of the Rock of ages.

David’s mind is filled with the promises of God and the assurance that “The Lord is my Shepherd, He is all I need”  His heart slows, his body rests, he is under the protection of the most High God.   Psalm 5:7 “I trust in God, so why should I be afraid?”

What lesson can we take away from David’s thoughts right now, today?

V2-3 I will cry... He is quite safe, but yet he prays, for faith is never dumb. We pray

   because we believe.

         He will send….

         He will rescue me

He will disgrace those coming against me

He will send forth His unfailing love and His faithfulness (whew!!!)

Psalm 119:11 I have hidden Your Word in my heart that I might not sing

against You.   Worry is sin Phil 4:6, It is the opposite of  Faith.

V 4-David understands his position. He is not in denial.

He has escaped from Gath (Psalm 56). He is now in the cave of Adullam. He had  somewhere around 600 men with him but he had to send them off but had to send them off and now he had only a few with him and they are hiding out.  He really has no safe place to lay his head. His enemies are spying on him and telling Saul his every move.

Instead of dwelling on his circumstances, He turned to praise. Praise brings Light into every dark situation. Praise recognizes God in all His Glory.

V5- Be exalted, O God, above the highest heaven! May your glory shine over all the earth.  David is not in a Sunday morning worship service, dressed in his finest, with fellow believers around, listening to the organ chime out  Be Exalted.

His circumstances have not changed, his mind is focused on His Deliverer.

V6-David states the truth about where he is and how he feels physically

V7 David proclaims his confidence in God

       The reason why he sings

V 8 Wake up my heart, wake up instruments of praise- I choose to waken the

            Dawn!!!

Dawn-what is dawn?

Praise awakens the dawn-Why?

Light dispels the darkness.  David in the midst of all his trouble, misery of the

    moment chooses to sing:

I will thank You     I will sing

vv10-11 your unfailing love- that has no limits

               faithfulness that reaches the clouds.

So Be Exhalted, O God, above the highest heavens. May your glory shine over all the earth!

David ends this Psalm this miktan with unwavering confidence that God would rescue him.

Be Exhalted-display your Sovereignty-You are in control-in my life.

Awaken my heart to sing of Your praises

I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever I will sing, I WILL sing!

I exalt You, I exalt You, I exalt You, O Lord

We exalt You, We exalt You, We exalt You, O Lord

I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever I will sing, I will sing.
I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever, I will sing of the mercies of the Lord.
With my mouth will I make known  Thy faithfulness, Thy faithfulness.
With my mouth will I make known  Thy faithfulness to all generations.....
