Psalm 8 - David’s View of God
Verse 1 Oh LORD, our Lord, (those of us on earth who know You)
· Your name is excellent. The majesty of Your name fills the earth, but the earth can’t contain it. They are brilliant. They are beautiful; he is amazed. They are ordered, You have set them in place.
·
Verse 2 David is impressed that all this glory could still be expressed by a child. All of the greatness of God.
Matthew 21:14,16 Jesus heals the blind and lame. Out of the mouths of babes and sucklings would come words of praise.
(Think about David sitting on the hills with his sheep. Think about how God met him and spoke to him truths that would lead him into a trust relationship with God. Think of him needing God to face the enemies of his flock and God giving him the ability to defend them.)
Children have the ear of God and their words, their praise silences the works of hell.
Jesus said, “Suffer the little children to come unto me.” Matthew 19:14
Unless you come as a little child you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
Matthew 18:3
Verse 3 David is out under the stars.

30 centuries after this is written, we can go to the moon, which David could only see.
Wow, God!
Verse 4 Why would You use me?
Why are we here in all this beauty?
Why me?
How can you Israelites look at God and not see Him as bigger than Goliath?
David - did what he could do - Action.
Then he led others to - Worship.
The Path to God
It is humility that leads to true humility.
Matthew 18:3 “I tell you the truth; unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven.”
God designed us so that we can become His dwelling place. We are the bearers of God. Let His light shine.
“You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trodden under foot by men.
You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:13-16
What is the purpose of life?
Why am I here?
Why do I get up every morning, work hard; what’s it all for?
To become what God, from the beginning of time, has purposed for each of us who will trust Him.
“For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11
Our pain and our problems are transforming us into people who know Jesus Christ, who reflect His character, who are truly His children.
I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. Romans 8:18
We know that the same God, who brought the Lord Jesus back from death will also bring us back to life again with Jesus, and present us to Him along with you.
2 Corinthians 4:14
David understood that God was his reason for living.
He ends this Psalm the way he opened it.
Oh LORD -
I will call You Lord -
How majestic is Your name!
is not knowledge, though you need wisdom.
