Psalm 74 (Bought by God) & 75 (God's Answer...)

Psalm 74

Bought By God

Remember your congregation, which you have purchased of old, which you have redeemed to be the tribe of your heritage! Remember Mount Zion, where you have dwelt. Psa 74:2

“God’s wounds are better than Satan’s salves.” John Trapp

Can He desert His blood bought and forsake His redeemed? Impossible! Spurgeon Written by the chief Musician Asaph after the Babylonian invasion of Judah and Jerusalem in 586B.C Jeremiah 38:14-23;39:1-2

This Psalm is a plea for God to remember them and bring relief! A prayer of Desperation. 1-3 1-Oh God Why have you rejected us FOREVER?  Why is your anger so intense- the sheep of YOUR OWN pasture?

2-Remember –we are the people YOU chose, You redeemed us Your HOME-have YOU seen it.

3-Walk through the ruins, the enemy destroyed YOUR sanctuary.

4-8 Let me remind YOU of what happened…

9-As for YOUR sheep, we don’t see our Shepherd helping us at all!

10-11 How long? How long O God… Psalm 69:9 “Passion for Your house burns within me, so those who insult You are also insulting me. Why don’t you use that Right Hand and let them see your power? A Time to remember … who God is to His people, to me!

12-17 YET. You-are my King,You-bring Salvation,You -split the sea by YOUR strength You -smashed the Sea Monster’s head,You –crushed the heads of Leviatan… In spite of outward appearances God is God, He is still the King, He is still our redeemer and we are His people. For the believer the last word is never desolation but Salvation.

18-23 We see what You have done Lord, please come to our rescue. You have witnessed what the enemies has done and said Please grant us MERCY- don’t let them destroy your doves Don’t forget Your afflicted people forever Give us opportunity to praise Your Name Plead Your own cause, You hear what they are saying and You see what they are doing, Lord defend Yourself. The Psalmist gets to the point where he has decided it is better to be silent and let God defend Himself and His people.

Psalm 75

God’s Answer, A Psalm of Faith

By Asaph the Musician

“The punishment of the wicked is prepared; God, Himself holds it in readiness” Spurgeon

As Asaph waits on God he burst out in praise!

1-God will NEVER abandon the righteous. He is always near, and always ready to step in with help. And we will remember all He has done for us!

God Says:

2-5 I have the plan I will bring justice I will keep the foundations firm God warns the proud and wicked God is the only one who can Judge.

6-8 He alone can raise another person up He alone decides who will rise and fall He holds the cup of judgment in His hand He pours it out for the wicked to drink The Psalmist Testimony

9- BUT AS FOR ME-I will tell what God has done I will sing praises to the God of Israel God’s Reply

10- I will cut off the strength of the wicked I will increase the power of the godly “How long?” the believer cries in Psalm 74 “Until the right time” is God’s answer to him in Psalm 75 God is always working on His timetable and He is never a day late. Who is this God we serve? 2 Kings 19:15-16, 22, 25, 27, 32, 35
