Psalm 4 - Calm Assurance - An evening prayer!

Psalm 4 - Calm Assurance - An evening prayer!

Life should be lived with God's sovereignty, knowing that He rules over everything for His glory. Look at God in the midst of your storm!

A personal salvation - a passionate cry!

vs. 1 - Hear me, have mercy on me.

David realizes he personally needs god to intervene. (Isaiah 64:7 - David is stirred up - "Hear me when I call." Ps. 145:8, 50:15; Is. 65:24; Ps. 18:6, 55:16, 85:7, 91:15>

He appeals to God's righteousness. The word for relief is - an open place. David pleads with God. He has a habit of asking for God's mercies knowing that God has forgiven him, helped him, delivered him many times. He won't leave him when David or you or I need Him the most. God will always be faithful when we cry out in our need. The name by which the Lord is addressed "O God of my righteousness" (KJV) - "O God who declares me innocent" (NLT) is not used inany other scripture. It means "Thou are the author, the witness, the maintainer, the judge, and the rewarder of my righteousness."Isaiah 64:7 "Yet no one calls on your name or pleads with you for mercy. Therefore, you have turned away from us and turned us over to our sin." God, I am appealing and asking You! "He, David, is taking his appeal not to the physical opinions but to the Superior Court, the King's Bench of Heaven." (Spurgeon) ? His appeal is that God would give him room (enlarge me when I was in distress). Enlarge my heart with joy and comfort; release me from the prison of grief and sorrow. Comfort me. Have mercy on me --"Though You may justly permit my enemies to destroy me on account of my many sins, yet I flee to Your mercy and I ask You to hear my prayer." Bring me, Your servant out of this trouble I am in! (You didn't bring me this far to leave me.)vs. 2 - David no longer is talking to God; he is talking to those coming against him.Sanctified - set apart.

Do you know who you are in God?

Are you set apart from ungodliness and set apart to God?

Have you been cleansed from sin by Jesus' blood?

Question from David>

How long will the ungodly keep to their way?

How long do we play around with sin?

David is concerned about his reputation - You are slandering me! How long - If I continue this course of action out to its logical and inevitable conclusion, where will I be?How long will you play around with sin?

You want to destroy me.

You love delusion

You seek false gods.

vs. 3 - David understands sanctification> He knows God has set him apart to bring Him glory. vs. 3 "The Lord has set apart the godly for Himself."You can be sure the Lord will answer!David stands on the Word of God Himself.

He yielded his life to God.

He believed the promises of God.

He had sinned and he knew forgiveness.

He knew his righteousness was from God.
